Hi Jarle i read your book about color correcting and of course i am using your tools.
Log to Lin ist quite new to me and i find it confusing when i read about it in the internet. With your tools it seems so be pretty easy to unwarp the LOG to Linear and do after that some grading. But how come there is some stuff written about 3D Lut or the Process descriped here.
Is there any benefit to apply any of these fancy program or do they just the same as the Log to Lin courves in your preset does? My S-LOG Material is recorded in ProRes 422.
Thanks for those geat Tools anyway. Hi Michael, 3D LUTs can do some things that a simple preset cannot do – like increasing or decreasing the saturation for just cyan colors only in the shadows, and so on. Unless yo’re aiming to make something look just the way your DOP saw it on his/her monitor – or you’re trying to make colors as close to natural as possible – then you don’t need a 3D LUT. In fact – a 3D LUT can destroy an image that’s under- or over exposed or where the white balance is off. So unless yo feel the need for 3D LUTs – and know how to use them, just use the LOG to LIN preset and go from there. In my productions, “correct” colors is never what I aim for – I just want the image to look good.
