Dead Space 2 DLC Not Coming to PC By Tim Colwill - Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:38pm - If you were looking forward to playing through the new 'Severed' DLC coming to Dead Space 2 on your PC, the title of this article may have ruined everything for you - it's not coming, and for reasons unknown. This upcoming DLC is set to bring back Gabe Weller and Lexine Murdoch, characters who were first introduced in Dead Space: Extraction, the previously Wii-exclusive on-rails shooter (later bundled with the PS3 version of Dead Space 2). In Severed, Gabe Weller has taken up a security guard job on the Sprawl (the city-setting of Dead Space 2 when the necromorphs attack, and he has to get himself and Lexine to safety. It certainly sounds like something that will appeal to fans of the game's storyline, although the Xbox 360 has never received Extraction to play, so the characters will be all-new on that platform. The reason for this decision from EA is unclear - from a technical point of view they certainly have the infrastructure in place to deliver DLC on the PC, so we can only assume some other issue is preventing it. We've reached out to EA for comment and will update you if we receive an answer. Note as well that the original title did not sell well on the PC, giving EA every reason not to produce Dead Space 2 for the PC. But they did produce it, and now many of us are playing this great game, which also happens to be getting rave reviews. From where I sit, EA deserves our appreciation on this one.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree with your sentiment. But EA obviously does care, since the PC version of Dead Space 2 is hands down the best version of the game, blowing away both the PS 3 and 360 versions with vastly superior graphics and better controls.

The most up-to-date version of Dead Space is the exact same version that first headed to the factory for mass-production. To imply that we owe EA and Visceral some kind of debt of gratitude because they so graciously bestowed their poxy game on the PC at an inflated price point and with less content available (even if it is paid DLC) is obscene, even for you. PrincessFrosty's recent thread highlighted how the game just flat-out didn't load, with no solution from the developer or work-around from the community. Personally I'm really tired of what is now becoming the reality that if you want a fully-featured, fully-supported game, you have to buy the console version.

Click to expand. No I'm saying because EA isn't releasing DLC I have reservations about them providing any kind of support. EA has a bad history of releasing and abandoning games. I have doubts of continued support of any kind for the game. EA already screwed up the launch, what confidence do I have that they won't screw up something later and will actually care enough to bother fixing it?

If it was Blizzard or Valve it would be a different story. Hell if it was Bioware it would be a different story, but Dead Space 1 was never fixed. Visceral never cared to fix it. They never even bothered to acknowledge the problem. Sorry, but I don't wish to throw away $60. If EA or anyone wants me to play $60 for a game they damn well better make it worth it.

Yeah EA has started with a very anti-PC approach to 2011; three of its biggest games of the year on the PC - Crysis 2, Bulletstorm and Dead Space 2 - have all had demos on the console but not on PC.and now this.

The absence of this DLC is strange because EA doesn't have any technical problems with handling DLC with the PC - Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2 and Bad Company 2 have been evidence of this. Did Visceral use all of its talent making Dead Space 2 stable on the PC and now it has nothing left to port the DLC over to the PC? Of course, if it was coming to the PC and there was a fee attached, we'd still probably be whinging. It's still weird that it's not showing up at all, though.

WTH happened? EA seems to have suddenly decided that they didn't want Ubisoft to take their King of Hateorade crown away from them from PC gaming folks.

I could have sworn last year I was seeing an EA coming down to Earth as far as DRM went and seeing an overall pretty good situation. Now we're back to crap DRM and lack of DLC and the rest of it. I just don't get it. Click to expand.Multiplayer literally makes the game something you can play for weeks or months vs. Something you run through a handful of times. You get more for your money when a game keeps you coming back for more. Multiplayer is a big part of that. If it's good. Expansion packs and mods did that in the past but now all we get is stupid DLC. If the DLC is worth getting I'll get it.

I absolutely thought it was worth while in the Force Unleashed games but not necessarily for others were you get a couple of maps and that's it. We also feel cheated because we don't get the option. More and more our platform of choice is becoming an after thought rather than the platform which leads the way for games and innovation. Will 99% of us run into those? I think that's doubtful if the first game is any indicator of what to expect. The game seems relatively solid just as the first one did. Visceral and EA did good on this one so far.

Still we want the option for DLC. There is no good damn reason not to other than EA and Visceral probably don't want to take the time to prepare a PC version because PC gamers are too whiny and bitch about DLC costing so much. It kills me that we've got people bitching and complaining about $10 worth of DLC content and $60 games when they'll spend $4,000 or more on PC hardware. Even a simple post on Twitter saying 'Sorry about the Vsync problem on the PC, but we're not able to fix it' would have been enough.
